Is it okay to do my regular yoga routine during my pregnancy?

i know to take it easy, and that there are yoga for pregnancy videos… but i like my regular video!

I’ve read an article recently about the benefits of yoga for the pregnant women: http://www.ishtayoga.com/articles/46
"… practice yoga and exercise more during pregnancy! You may feel more comfortable, beautiful, and confident about your newly blossoming body. You may also find your baby is happier, smarter, calmer, stronger, and more relaxed. Amazing, but could be true!"

But it is important to listen to your body and know when you need to exercise and when to rest. And please modify and even avoid some poses.

Here are some suggestions and please read more from the links below.
- Pregnant women should avoid most inversions because you don’t want to encourage circulation away from the uterus. (The one exception, however, is Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog), which is fine for short periods of time.)
- Pregnant women should avoid closed twists, and backbends. (Don’t do anything that might compress the uterus or overstretch the abdominal muscles.)
- In Savasana pregnant woman should lie on her left side.
- As the blessed event approaches, focus on poses like Prasarita Padottanasana (Intense Spread Leg Stretch), Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose), and Upavistha Konasana (Seated Wide Angle Pose) to open the groins in preparation for delivery. Standing poses like Utthita Trikonasana (Extended Triangle Pose), and Utthita Parsvakonasana (Extended Side Angle Pose) can help relieve back pain. And a simple inversion such as Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-the-Wall-Pose) can help to relieve swollen ankles.

Good Luck : )

Does anyone have recommendations for how to choose a yoga mat?

I’m a beginning yoga student, but I’d like to continue and I need a basic mat I can use so I don’t have to borrow during class, yuck! Does anyone know of a good mat that is inexpensive yet would be good for classes?

I would recommend you get an eco mat. These mats are recyclable, biodegradable, and made from natural rubber. No PVC, Plastic , or man made toxic materials. Lots of company’s make them. They do cost a bit more but they last for years and they are eco friendly. I use Natural fitness yoga mats. Manduka and prana also have eco mats. You can get Natural Fitness here http://www.yogalimbsjewelry.com/apps/webstore/products/show/861190

best yoga cds/dvds for weight loss in India?

hi,
I have been hearing a lot about yoga for weight loss ,Can anyone suggest the most effective yoga cds available in Mumbai ,India or any online sites for the same..

The best yoga for weight loss I found is the YRG Workout. It is a high cardio, low impact workout that helps you lose weight. It is yoga based and they added in some pillates movements to get you in your fat burning zone. The online videos are at www.GreatDrills.com but if you want the DVD’s go to ebay for the best price.

What colleges do you recommend I apply to? I want to major in Pre-med/Political science…?

Hi,

I’ll be a junior next year. Here are my CURRENT credentials:

Cross Country
JSA senator (My bill was one of 5 that passed @ W. Congress
AP US history (B)
Pre-AP English (A-)
Hospital Volunteer since last spring (2007)
Volunteered 40 hours at local library
Year ahead in Science (Chemistry)
Active runner and in Yoga
Violinist
Class Representative for Student Council
GPA is currently 3.73 (unweighted)
Haven’t taken SAT yet, but on the PSAT I got 97th percentile for Writing, but not so good for math.

By My senior year, I am pretty darn sure I will have:

-A leadership position in JSA
-Started a personal philosophy club
-Have been doing ballet for two years (I quit when I was 9)
-Still be a runner
-Have been taking college courses @ local university (not community college) for two years.
-Be a pharmacy technician
-Still volunteer@ hospital
-Be a violinist
-Have done AP summer camp @ Georgetown or Yale
-Have a 3.8+ unweighted GPA
-Dunno about SAT yet…

Any ive league school…I would recommend Harvard or MIT..as they are among the best schools…i wouldn’t bring my hopes up too early because even with that 3.8 GPA and potentially having outstanding SAT scores…you could still very well get denied as people with 4.0, all honors, and everything you could possibly do! will get the priority. and also due to space avaliable..they cannot except everyone, and that means leaving out some of the best students. But there are many other schools that you can apply to that will accept you right away, tufts is a good one.
