is it possible to lower my 5k race time?

i just finished my first season of cross country as a freshman girl. my personal best was 27:40. i know that is not really good for alot of runners, but since it was my first year i think i did great. i was able to drop 3 min that season. so i want to become a varsity runner for next cross country season so i need a time like 22:15 and lower. right now cross country ended about 2 months ago and i have joined our schools winter running club.(we do aerobic runs, threshold runs, hill sprints and strides. sometimes we do yoga). then in spring i will be doing track and field as a distance runner (it will be my third year at track) so i was wondering what other things should i do to lose time on my 5k race because i want to become a really good runner :)

also what shoes should i look for my training. i had bought under armour shoes for 90 dollars and they were specter (or something like that) and they work okay but they fall apart really quick.

finally do you think it is poosible?
thanks~
xD

your doing plenty and you just may make varsity next season if not the following season.. just keep training and training but don’t over do it .
running shoes like that do fgall apart rather easily many had 2 pair one for competition and one for training

whne they guy from the University of Oregon running/track coach.. whom started Nike invented the shoe they fell apart after one race(the Prefontain story)

Healthy Panchendriya With Healthy Dinacharya

Panchendriya means the five sense organs. Dinacharya means daily lifestyle routine. Daily lifestyle routines have direct influence on our panchendriya or the five sense organs. The healthy functioning of all the five senses and clear thought processes is a sign of overall health.

Healthy dinacharya leads to healthy panchendriya and overall physical and mental health. Dinacharya is a set of rules for daily routines starting from the time of wake up, doing everyday chores to getting to bed after completing the karma for a day.

Most ideal time to wake up

According to Ayurveda it is well before sun rise, probably around 5 in the morning. Atmosphere is most purified during this time. It is also the time that fills your mind with all positive thoughts and ideas. Early morning is time for sattwa or positive mental traits. It is also the time of the day when cognitive and learning powers are highly illuminated.

Very young children, elderly and sick persons are free to break this rule.

Method of waking up

Don’t jump off from your bed as soon as you wake up. Take a moment or two to mentally identify your position on the bed, the room and the thoughts running through your mind. Touch and feel your body for a while and take two or three deep breathes before you slowly get off.

Elimination – bowel movement and urination

Eliminate the wastes before the sun rise. However you don’t have to force elimination. Early elimination is necessary to expel the toxic wastes from the body before your body is slowly put to toxicity. See the process as basic cleansing of your internal body.

Cleansing the Senses – Sense Organs or Panchendriya

Wash your eyes and ears as first steps of purifying your sense organs. Apply a drop of sesame or almond oil inside the ear. Thoroughly clean the tongue. Also clean your nose by pulling some water into your nose. This cleans the nose and sinuses.

One indriya not included in panchendriya is our mind. Ayurvedic dinacharya recommends inhaling the smoke of medicinally valuable herbs like turmeric cleanses the thought process and empowers for better cognitive powers and clear thought process. Morning Ayurvedic dhoom pana (inhalation of smoke) also helps in cleaning lungs.

Massage your body with simple coconut oil, almond oil or olive oil. You can also choose Ayurveda abhayanga oils. This promotes blood circulation in all parts of the body, helps getting more nourishment to tissues and prevents aging. Aging is basically the wearing off of bodily tissues because of insufficient nutrition. Abhayanga solves this problem.

Take a bath 30-90 minutes after self massage.

Exercise needs to be complete before taking a bath. The reason is obviously to remove sweat from the body.

Exercise and meditation should be there in your daily routine. Yoga, surya namaskar, pranayama etc are the things to follow.

Daily food

Break fast

Natural organic food is best for your health and body. Take only a light break fast before 7′o clock.

Lunch

The ideal time to take lunch is before 12.30, five to six hours after your light breakfast. You will be very hungry while at the time of lunch. The hunger is a healthy indication of strong digestive fire and receptiveness of the body for food. Eating too much too soon is the single highest reason for several diseases. Eat a healthy, highly nutritious lunch. This is the main meal of the day. Take a slow walk for no more than two minutes after lunch and take some rest. Don’t avoid either the walk or rest. It is essential for proper digestion of the food.

Supper

Supper is best taken before 7 in the evening. Keep it lighter than lunch. ‘athazham kazhinjal arakkatham’ is a saying in Malayalam that suggests you should walk for a little while after supper.

Daily works and travel

Complete your works and travel before sundown. Spend the sundown and later hours with your family and kids, engaging in prayers or meditation.

Time after supper

This is time to relax. Don’t try to bring in tiring thoughts. Instead keep this time of the day in the most relaxed mood. Listen to music, read good books etc.

Bedtime

Go to bed at around 10. Bed time is also time for physical union. Make sure you get a minimum of six-seven hours of sleep. You are going to wake up before 5 in the morning, right?

Yoga Insights: Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), Part 2

For exceptional benefits to the thyroid and parathyroid, it is arguable that other asanas would be more effective, than those in a traditional Sun Salutation, especially if held longer. For example: The shoulder stand, (Sarvangasana), held for a longer duration, would be more beneficial for sending oxygenated blood to the thyroid and parathyroid.

However, the condition of a Yoga student’s neck should be a prime concern when performing the shoulder stand. Therefore, in this instance, the standing forward bend with a chin lock, performed in a Sun Salutation, is much less risky.

The Sun Salutations will help eliminate toxins from your body. By creating healthy circulation and speeding up the elimination systems, within your body, the Sun Salutations work like a tonic. All of this physical movement, that occurs while practicing the Sun Salutations, will thoroughly oxygenate your blood and open your breathing passages.

In turn, the body is more relaxed, flexible, and stress is reduced. Yoga students, who perform Sun Salutations on a regular basis, will sleep better at night and become much calmer.

Just remember to allow a few hours between the end of the Sun Salutations and the beginning of bedtime. This will allow your body and mind the time to wind down and relax. Also, this is just one more good reason to practice Sun Salutations during the morning hours.

Strength, muscle tone, and coordination are also benefits that Yoga students can expect to see and feel. During my experience while teaching Yoga classes, I have noticed that students, at any age, noticeably improved in strength, muscle tone, and overall coordination, when they regularly practice Sun Salutations.

Some of them even loss weight, but diet is also a large factor in this. Yet, some that did not lose weight did lower body fat. We know this because privately- trained Yoga students do have their body fat checked when they start. This is not a requirement, but it is an option. Some Yoga students must see and feel the physical benefits first, in order to “stick with the program.”

Mental health benefits of Surya Namaskar are many, but when anxiety and stress are lowered; the quality of life goes up. With this in mind, the odds of becoming depressed are drastically reduced. Some Yoga students practice Sun Salutations just to keep depression “at bay.”

With all of the above-mentioned benefits, Sun Salutations should be considered a very valuable part of Hatha Yoga practice. They can even be modified for Chair Yoga practice. Therefore, always consider Surya Namaskar to be an essential part of your class – especially, if you teach a form of Hatha Yoga. Always remember that Surya Namaskar is much more than a warm-up.

Manage Your Moods to Skyrocket Productivity

Have you ever noticed that your output depends on your mood?

When you’re feeling like a million bucks, you can whiz right through your tasks with a smile on your face – and probably do a great job, as well. On the other hand, if you are feeling down, angry, or otherwise distracted by something that is bothering you, it can feel like a chore to do even the basics required of you, and truth be told you’re not likely producing your best work under such conditions.

While this yo-yoing in productivity is very common, it is not the best way to work, and of course can be frustrating for employers as well. Is there a way to control or master your moods, or perhaps to not let your moods affect your behavior and output quality?

The short answer is yes, and the long answer involves many proven techniques for both mood improvement and mood management. In this article, we’ll cover some of the simplest and most immediate activities you can perform to improve and manage your moods.

Tip#1

Begin your days on a high note. Whatever happened yesterday is now in the past, and you must decide to begin fresh every day. There are many ways you can begin creating uplifting habits as part of your morning routine, and within a very short period of time you will notice your entire day goes much better; by beginning with a happier state of mind, your coping skills and patience levels should improve markedly. Ideas for morning mood-enhancers include exercise, deep breathing, yoga and meditation.

Tip#2

Invest a little time and make a list of things that make you feel great, and gather as many of them as you can. This may include movies and books which never fail to make you laugh, letters from friends or loved ones which warm your heart, and activities that brighten your spirit. Then, next time you feel a little – or a lot – out of sorts, pull out one of these ‘happiness triggers’ and let it work its magic. Changing our moods is a personal choice, and by making the decision before you feel down that you will act to correct it next time, you’ll be prepared to immediately offset the effect, rather than allowing yourself to slide into a worse mood.

Tip#3

Soothe your senses. Nature has built in many ‘mood remedies’ which can work like charms when you need them. Remember that often our negative moods are indicative of worry, fear or fatigue, and by re-orienting ourselves to that which feels good, we can distract our minds from the worries and improve our overall mood level. Whether you go for a walk in a beautiful natural environment, listen to a soothing natural sounds audio, light scented candles that make you feel relaxed, put on your favorite cozy robe or turn on some music and dance, treat yourself well and reap the rewards.

Utility Aspect of Gayatri Yajnas and Their Dire Need

Super Mantra Gayatri and Yajnas are like an inseparable couple. One is the mother of Indian culture and the other is the father of Indian spirituality. Both are mutually dependent on one another. Without executing a Yajna at the end of a Gayatri Mantra chanting program (Anushthaan) the latter remains incomplete. One portion of Japa or Mantra chanting is in the form of Havan or fire sacrifice. In ancient times when people were materially well off a tenth portion of Mantra chanting program was devoted to Yajna. But looking at today’s circumstances a 100th portion of the number of Mantras chanted is offered as Ahutis (sacred materials to the Yajna fire saying ‘Swaahaa’) to a Yajna. Without this an Anushthaan remain incomplete. A question may arise that what happens to those who are not materially very well off? The answer is that such individuals should chant extra Mantras amounting to a 10th portion of the number chanted during an Anushthaan. For them this extra Mantra Japa is considered equivalent to performing a Yajna. By giving this option it is not as though Yana is being ignored but that its importance albeit indirectly has been highlighted. Again it should be noted that this arrangement is only for the poor strata of society.

For more scientific e-books visit: http://www.shriramsharma.com/ (GOOGLE PR 4) and http://www.awgp.org/ (Google 5)

A dialogue between Janak and Yajnavalkya regarding the non availability of Yajna materials took place. Janak insisted the problems of Yajna performance are many and Yajnavalkya kept giving solutions to those problems thus insisting that Yajnas were a very important aspect of Vedic culture. Janak asked: Suppose Yajna materials like Charu are not available what is to be done? The answer was: Conduct Yajnas using materials eaten by a person daily (rice, wheat, millet etc grains). Janak asked: Suppose there is no food what happens then? The answer is make-do with plants. Janak asked: Suppose there are no plants? The answer was that use only Samidha (wood based fuel) for the Yajna. Janak asked: Suppose fire itself is not available? The answer is that mentally execute a Yajna using the fire of faith in a meditative manner. This is the gist of the long conversation that had taken place.

From the above it becomes clear that along with Gayatri Mantra Japa conducting a Yajna is a must. Further in an Anushthaan both these are mutually conjoined. Gayatri Japa and 5-fold Yajna are imperative. We all know that conjoined to meditative methods are the Balivaishwa rites and it is nothing but a mini Yajna. During dire times this Balivaishwa rite became so miniscule that women after taking fire from their cooking pyre offered 5 small parts of a Roti (Indian wheat bread) to it while chanting the Gayatri Mantra. Thus it was taken to be a Yajna. Further those who worshipped Gayatri regularly too performed this miniscule Yajna. Before partaking food they would remove 5 small portions of food from their plates and offer it to a small bowl of fire. Even today here and there this tradition can be seen in India. Today Yuga Nirman Mission is trying to rejuvenate this tradion of miniscule Yajnas.

In ancient India great Rishi-Seers kept in mind at every step, wisdom, subtle viewpoint, utility and state of facts before embarking on any world welfare program. Despite giving due importance to Yajnas in religious activities they have kept many other precepts in mind too. They could never make any endeavor which had no great utility value. They have always gave due emphasis to the results and attainments while giving more importance to any sacred endeavor. Thus they gave Yajnas more importance amongst all spiritual endeavors keeping in mind their capacity to bestow world denizens both material and spiritual prosperity.

In Indian scripture one amongst many names of Almighty God is ‘Yajna Purusha’. Within the Shruti of Shatpath (‘Yajno vai Vishnu’) Yajna is said to be synonymous with Lord Vishnu. In the preliminary portion of Rig-Vedas Yajnas are described as a guide, preceptor, Purohit, Guru etc. While calling those who sing God’s eulogies as Deva or divinity manifest this endeavor’s fruits are called Ratna or jewel. In Vedic literature so much information is given on Yajna science and its deep import that no other information can match it. In one Vedic verse it is said “Agnay naya supathaa raayay”. It means requesting earnestly this Super Divine Fire to take all creatures to the shores of divine greatness. The same meaning can be found in Gayatri Mantra’s portion of “Dheeyo yo naha prachodayaata”.

Within the normal lifestyle of mankind Yajnas are inseparably bound to their worship rites. Right from birth to death Shodasha Sanskaaras or the 16-fold rites have been prescribed by Indian scriptures. All these are synonymous with the concept of Yajnas. Without executing a yajna none of these 16 rites can be completed. The word Yajnopaveet (sacred thread ceremony) which is one of these 16 Sanskaaras comes from the word Yajna. Yajnopaveet is a combination of Gayatri’s sacred sentiments and Yajna rites. In Indian marriage ceremony the bride and groom circumambulate the Yajna pyre without which the marriage ceremony remains incomplete. It is only after circumambulation of the Yajna pyre (7 Pheraas) is executed that the couple is declared as married or husband/wife. The last Sanskaara is Antyeshti. The funeral pyre in its pure aspect is a big sized Yajna. A funeral pyre may be lit with proper or half proper rules yet so many rules of Yajna have to be observed. The Puraahuti called Kapaal Kriya is done offering Ghee Ahuti (clarified butter).

The annual Yajna in the form of the Holi Festival of colors yet pervades in some form or the other everywhere. When worship programs pf gods/goddesses are performed some form of a Yajna too is executed. In certain cases lighting of incense sticks or a flame lamp is taken to be a representation of a miniscule Yajna form. Overhere incense stick symbolizes the Yajna materials and the flame lamp as Ghee offered to the Yajna fire. Whenever auspicious activities are carried out some form of a Yajna too is performed. It maybe an actual Yajna or a representation of it by lighting incense sticks and flame lamp (Deepak) as mentioned above.

The point that needs cogitation is why have Yajnas been given a prime spot in Indian culture? As an answer to this we can surely say that the more one dives deep into the concept of Yajnas the more its mysteries unfold. It then becomes crystal clear that Yajnas have their basis in both science and divine wisdom. Al those principles that back both material and spiritual advancement are embedded in seed form within the concept of Yajnas. The very vital principles of peace and bliss both individually and universally manifest superbly through the medium of sacred Yajnas.

The deep import of Yajna connotes spirituality and also an act of generosity. According to Sanskrit language Yajna comes from its root ‘Yaja’ which has 3 meanings viz. 1) divinity 2) congregation 3) charity. These 3 are divine streams which augment great qualities in both the individual and world at large. Divinity means a sacred character full of divine qualities. Congregation means unity, cooperation and world brotherhood. Charity means commitment to social well being and aiming to realize the dream of ‘World united peacefully as a family’. In other words it means creating “A BEAUTIFUL BORDERLESS WORLD”. Thus Yajna represents all these 3 streams of activities. It can also be called a flag that represents these various activities. The flaming red torch of Jnana Yajna (Wisdom) is also called the representative of this Yajna Fire. Thought Revolution and Ritambhara Prajna or Divine Intellect is the vital force of Super Mantra Gayatri. Within the Yajna movement devotees are given due inspiration to translate pious qualities into wholesome professional, social and other actions. The basis of progress lies in knowledge and actions. Pious actions are called penance and sacred wisdom is called Yoga. Even for material progress intense perseverance and education are emphasized upon. Within them one gets a glimpse of Gayatri and Yajna precepts.

The Spiritual Philosophy of life’s Yajna makes man great and full of glory. Along with the concept of cosmic consciousness (Almighty Lord for the layman) Vedas exhort us to partake Yajnaavashishta (sanctified remnants of Yajna offerings). He who eats without sharing with others is called a cheat and a thief. There are many Vedic Sooktas (verses) which say that demigods attained divinity through the medium of Yajnas. Over here world humanity is commanded to work for world welfare. In a nutshell we can say that Yajna philosophy motivates world humanity to imbibe a great character at the individual level and at the world level a sense of brotherhood and unity by working selflessly for its material and spiritual progress. This is that supreme path which will help us attain all round advancement both individually and cosmically.

While describing the subtle inspirations imbued in the iconic image of Yajnas a very appropriate teaching is given to individuals to maintain inner/external purity and this make the world potent both materially and spiritually. This teaching is so extraordinary that it is difficult to find its match in other sacred scriptures. The Fire of Yajna manifests so many special qualities as follows:

1) Always keep the head high-even if there is a problem never allow the head to droop down

2) We must treat everyone whom we come in contact with as our equals.

3) Whatever one procures or earns must not be hoarded but used for world peace and prosperity.

4) Never allow lack as far as heat and light is concerned to attack your very existence.

5) Always utilize your material and spiritual prowess for world well being.

According to the Rig-Veda Yagna Fire is a Purohit (priest) appointed by Almighty God and despite the speech remaining mute it inspires world denizens to aspire for all round progress and peace via its activities. If apt social education is imparted wherein first one understands the importance of the above 5 glories and then putting them into practice divinity can manifest in mankind and heaven like situation will manifest on Earth. Thus Satyuga or Golden Age that reigned in ancient times can return with greater vim and vigor for a long time span to come. The tricolor of India’s flag symbolizes the 3 principles on which India’s progress is based on. If only a wisdom and sacred sentimental based description of the 5 inspirations of Yajna Fire can be given they can easily be imbibed both by the individual and society at large for all round growth. For Era Transformation to manifest in a full fledged manner along with a radiant world future these ideals must be etched firmly in the psyche of world humanity.

It is said that after performing Yajnas demigods attained divinity. It is also said that only via Yajnas can true Brahmin-hood manifest in animal-men. One third of the 6 endeavors executed by Brahmins have to be devoted to performing Yajnas and helping other laymen do so. From an indirect standpoint within these proclamations the grandeur of those precepts pertaining to purity and brilliance are pinpointed which are the foundation stones of the very life force of yajna and world peace/brotherhood. The entire cycle of individual and society, nature and creation circumambulates on the axis of the Wheel of Yajnas. It is the Yajna Philosophy of generous cooperation that creates situations of activeness, good management, advancement and joy/peace in every nook and corner of the world. The life of the human chariot works fine simply because all its parts (organs like heart, lungs etc) work in tandem. Ere these organs harbor narrow minded attitudes, selfishness, vanity and refuse to cooperate with one another our life’s journey will end on the spot. The Water Cycle of nature is crystal clear: Clouds get water from the ocean, earth from clouds, rivers from earth and ocean from flowing rivers. If even one leg of this cycle is obstructed know for sure that our planet Earth will sizzle like blazing infernos. In the Living Being Cycle, living beings devour plants. Plants in turn get their food from the feces and urine of living beings. Both are mutually related to one another. Plants exhale oxygen which is a life support for many creatures, especially human beings. In turn human beings exhale carbon dioxide gas which is inhaled for sustenance by the plant kingdom. The same magnanimous cooperation exists between animals and human beings. This is Yajna according to the Vedas and thus the Wheel of Creation/Time keeps rotating. By imbibing the true concept of Yajna man gets a golden opportunity to rise higher in life especially in comparison to other beings. But when this sacred ideal is ignored innumerous dire situations are witnessed the world over. When the sacred activities of Yajna are imbibed truly every problem will find its solution. Human welfare and Yajna ideals are 2 legs of one single tenet. Hence the author of Bhagwad Geeta says: Prajaapati created human beings and Yajnas simultaneously and proclaimed that if they worked for mutual welfare in tandem not one of them will lack joy, peace and a stress free life. This great tenet of world well being is called Yajna Philosophy. In order that the world is educated in this respect Agnihotra (fire sacrifice) in the form of an iconic solution has been revered as a leading religious/spiritual activity.

Yajna also encompasses material science. Yajnas contribute gigantically by purifying foul air and rendering it very fragrant. Thus man’s very life support viz. air/oxygen is rendered clean and pollution free. Today air pollution has become a very big world problem and hence if the concept of Yajna is given due importance air pollution can be destroyed from its very roots.

Yajna Energy abounds with power to destroy bacteria and other germs that cause various diseases. We are quite sure such an easy, widespread and cheap method of healing has yet to be unearthed to date. Ancient spiritual texts are full of healing methods both as far as the mind and physical body are concerned. If only these pages are opened and referred to avidly not only bodily but psychological/psychiatric illnesses too can be tackled very efficiently. Amongst various healing methods the world over Yajna healing can get predominance simply because its healing herbs are administered with great ease in the human body via very subtle/pure air. Today medicines are administered using very gross mediums and hence they fail to penetrate very deeply into the various organs of the body. If today’s world situation is analyzed very deeply what stands out that more than physical diseases it is vile mental taints like bad habits, addiction to drugs etc, criminal tendencies, unruliness, anger, erroneous thinking, hatred and a stressful life which gives more hardships to world humanity. Thus when Yajna Therapy will be presented in a very compact form to the entire world it will surely help overcome mental stress and bodily diseases in a big way.

The cosmic widespread influence of Yajna programs result in benefits like Parjanya especially in drought and famine conditions. The gross meaning of Parjanya is clouds and hence rains. But the subtle meaning is rain of Vital Force. In the ancient times of the Yajna Era heavy rains lashed out in all corners of the world. For this special Yajnas can be conducted pertaining to rain bearing cloud formation. Even today, many a time this Yajna technique has given wonderful results wherein it rained on otherwise parched and arid lands. And yet Parjanya should not be restricted to showering of rain water. Instead the deeper meaning is said to be the Vital Force Principle which via the medium of Yajnas is formed in space and via wind and clouds it gets showered as Vital Force rain water. This rain of Vital Force neo creates the inner personality of both animate and inanimate beings (an outstanding method of personality development). This Vital Force based Parjanya nourishes and makes more potent materials like plants, herbs, water, food, air, milk etc which are vital for man’s sustenance. Their power augments manifold. With the result if any animal, bird, human being etc utilize these their radiance will surely go in the upward direction in an untold manner. This attainment doubtlessly will aid all round progress of the entire world.

More than purification of air it is more prudent to sanctify the world’s atmosphere. Pure air aids good health. The atmosphere influences every nook of our personality and hence in its development. In turn it gives a positively wholesome direction to our previously wayward thinking process. Thus a strong foundation of transformation of our actions (social, professional etc) is laid down. The Yuga Nirmaan Mission aims at sanctifying world psyche from its very grass roots. For this no doubt, activities of propaganda and creativity are required, writings and speeches on this subject are welcome but remember that these gross endeavors cannot fully influence and transform those sensitive layers of the human psyche. In fact the very flow of the subtle world will have to be reversed. The atmosphere definitely is influenced by winter, summer, rains etc and this in turn will transform world circumstances by leaps and bound. In the same way, if the measure of greatness inspiring elements augment a great deal in the subtle atmosphere it will be a tad easier to flow along with the general trends of the world. When it becomes windy the speed of a boat picks up a lot. A certain wholesome atmosphere needs to be created if a bright world future has to set in. This is where Gayatri Yajnas step in and take over the mantle of inducing, a conducive subtle atmosphere.

Kids Yoga: A Solution to Global Obesity in Children

Two topics that most people are tired of hearing about are obesity and childhood obesity. The problem is we will not find solutions for these problems if we “bury our heads in the sand.” Kids Yoga is a viable solution to obesity in children, but this requires schools and parents to take action now.

Obesity has crept up on all age groups quickly; children in some countries need to change their lifestyles immediately. If not, there will be serious health repercussions that will shake our health systems and fragile economies.

How did massive numbers of obesity get here? How can less physical activity in children be acceptable? How could Kids Yoga be a solution?

Parents today have less buying power than our parents had. Many children are shifted from school to day care, while both parents are working extra hours to support the family. Many of today’s meals are composed of processed foods -whether they are store-bought, or bought for takeout, from a restaurant.

Physical education has suffered serious cutbacks since the “Cold War” ended. Back in the 1970′s, and before, children ran and played outside more often.

The Yoga lifestyle helps parents and children manage diet in a very busy and stressful world. If you are conscious of it, there are wiser food choices, even from restaurants. When children practice Yoga, they become much more aware of their diet, posture, activities, and daily exercise routine.

Educators, doctors, Yoga teachers, and parents cannot afford to wait until the next study on childhood obesity is completed to take action. Children are bigger than ever, due to inactivity and a high fat / carbohydrate diet. Large numbers of big children will become even bigger adults, who are at risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, various forms of cancer, and much more.

Therefore, educators, doctors, Yoga teachers, and parents must be proactive. Do not expect grant money, government assistance, or any help from “big brother.” Look at the reaction to global warming by the world’s governments and you see how long it takes to get a reaction.

For parents with school-aged children, there has never been a better time for them to attend Yoga classes. Children consider Yoga an extension of other games and exercises they would normally do. Children will naturally jump, roll on the ground, run, and spin around, in the course of playing with their friends.

With proper supervision from a certified Yoga teacher, children learn what they can and cannot do. Kids Yoga classes teach safe Hatha Yoga techniques for flexibility, strength and muscle tone.

If a child is obese, parents should not expect instant miracles with weight loss, and parents would do well to learn the practice of Hatha Yoga. In this way, parents and children will both be aware of proper dieting and a much healthier lifestyle.

Pursuit of Happiness

OBSERVATION

Observe your thoughts but don’t go anywhere with them. In other words don’t jump to a conclusion too soon.

There is a 5,000 word explanation for the power of observation but the basics are to understand what our first is and what our second thought is. Our first thought is intuition and our second thought is originated from our ego. There still is a problem as our ego demands you to believe that the second thought is in fact your first.

Your first thought is an immediate flash of knowledge that arises; sometimes without you taking much notice. Do nothing but be aware that this is how it works.

QUOTE: “Seek not that the things which happen should happen as you wish, but wish the things that happen to be as they are, and you will have a tranquil flow of life.” (Epictetus)

Nature has a habit of lifting our spirits – never, never underestimate this potential! Have you ever spoke to an animal of your problems? You’ll never get advice, but you’ll get a listening ear. Why does food and drink taste so good when you’re sat by the beach? Yet strangely the same food at home never realises the same potential for happiness.

Write down during any normal day events that trigger a happy feeling. Then when that day turns sour you can look back at your journal and know what action to take that can bring back that happy feeling. It maybe that cooking or listening to the radio is good, or looking out of a specific window. You’ll only really know by keeping a good journal.

CENTRE YOURSELF

Although Meditation, Yoga, Chi Kung and Aerobics for example are good tools for restfulness, they may not be right for you. One specific option for restfulness is appreciating the value of giving full attention. When you only give half attention, your other half is drifting off trying to solve some problem or drift off into a dream of fantasy.

Try using full attention as thus… Opt for some mundane job such as cleaning a brass handle on the door. Don’t put a time limit on the job as that will affect the whole task. Feel the cloth and the texture, listen to the glug of the fluid as it drips onto the cloth. Feel the dampness of the cloth with your finger as you apply the solution to the brass. Watch carefully as you press and apply the right pressure to rid the brass of the grime. Listen for the squeak as the grime disappears and the true colour emerges. Clean with precision and don’t leave any grime left on the door handle.

This whole process may have taken 30 minutes, the completed job is perfection personified. It would have been restful. The importance of centering yourself as thus is that your mind is given to one job and one job only. It is a connection that will take away sorrow and sadness until that full attention is lost.

Be aware also that the moment you leave the beauty of full attention the answer to any problems may arise. It is said that your mind is allowed to resolve the problems of your life if you give a particular task your full attention; anything less than full attention and your mind is being actively used to follow some day dream or other.

LISTEN AND LEARN

Listen to your teacher! Who is your teacher? It could be the next person you meet. Everyone has the potential to be your teacher.

Being happy allows you to SEE. Being negative will not allow you to see anything; it is as if you’re wearing blinkers.

MAKE OPPORTUNITIES

Your first discipline in reading this book is to ‘make opportunities’. How do you do this?

Be happy… Happiness is the breading ground for opportunity; you’ll never get inspired by being sad or angry.

Call this discipline ‘reading time’ and allow 15 minutes to 30 minutes each day in doing this. Read something that is motivational. This in itself helps to trigger a happy feeling.

CAUSE and EFFECT – We all are probably aware of this psychological description. If your next action is the ‘effect’ then the cause is your decision to do it. For happiness you must first have the decision to be happy.

REASON

Generally we can identify why we are happy; this is because there was a reason. In deciding there was a reason we processed an analysis of the situation. Avoid such analysis, why not be happy for NO REASON?

INNER CONFLICT

The tasks that need the most effort are often those that present us with the greatest problems. Perhaps we strive for success with more ‘brawn than brains’ and forget our intended goal has an hidden agenda or conflict preventing the job’s completion.

Strange as it may seem some people wallow in struggling! Others perhaps enjoy the struggle as they know it leads to greater prospects. Which are you?

QUOTE: “The moment you make anything into a ‘problem’, you define yourself as a victim.” (Robert Holden)

Inner conflict is a problem that we shouldn’t ignore; although in wisdom we are best submitting the problem to our subconscious to resolve, which is not too dissimilar to ignoring it. If we cannot resolve it with rational thinking then a good practice is to allow our higher mind to present the resolution.

Inner conflict is a barrier and little else will get resolved when a major battle is taking place within our mind. We must first accept that an inner conflict exists and then proceed with a practice that we know will complete the task. However as mentioned in the last paragraph, to TRUST in our higher mind cum sub-conscious mind is a good alternative to consider.

STUCK IN A RUT?

Fear, self-doubt, self-criticism and self-sabotage; all observations of a person who says they are ‘stuck in a rut’, but is this a true state of affairs? Well of course it is! That’s why this person is in a rut.

What appears to happen in an attempt to resolve this situation is that they try and put right what has gone wrong. But you can’t change history!

Let’s assume for illustration purposes a boy has fallen out with his girlfriend. What tends to happen is that he wants to go back and justify his actions that lead to the break up of the relationship. He needs to deal with the past problem in the NOW. The best possible solution is to say you’re SORRY.

We don’t want to spend weeks and weeks trying to put right something that’s happened in the past, we need to act in the NOW in a positive way which makes a promise for a brighter future.

Being ‘stuck in a rut’ is not so much a troubled past but being afraid of moving on. This fear is because you’re trying to put right those actions in the past. Your next ten minutes on this planet are the result of what action you take NOW.

THE MIRROR EFFECT

The principle we call the ‘mirror effect’ has several permutations, one of which is; ‘you only get out of life what you put in’. The simplicity but immense power this principle has, will consistently impress you.

Imagine this scenario… It is 9am one evening and you realize you’ll need some milk and bread for breakfast. The decision is to visit your local late opening supermarket. You quickly glance in the mirror and say, “It’ll have to do!” You rush off to the supermarket and the odds are that you’ll not talk to anyone other than the person at the till and that would only be a grunted, “Thanks.” This is the mirror effect – if you look unapproachable, nobody will approach you.

Check the mirror before you leave the house; and smile! That image will be left as a vision of yourself and subsequently what others see of you.

Astrology & the Fourfold Yoga ( The Science of Cosmic Union )

The Ego is the imperfect term in Man and Self is the perfect term. The Ego is the lower imperfect term of our being; the Self is the higher perfect term.

All Yogic systems intend to eliminate and erase the Ego. To erase the Ego, the easiest path is Bhakti Yoga, a yoga of Self-surrender.

Amongst the Fourfold Yoga, Bhakti Yoga has more power than others to eliminate the Ego as its basic postulate is ” I am nothing; Thou art everything” !

Astrology & Quantum ( Holistic ) Medicine

In his essay ” Self Healing “, Dr Naras Bhat writes that ” everything in life has opposites – Yin-Yang. There are two types of yin-yang imbalances

- Stress arousal & the Ultradian Healing Response.

Stress arousal increases the adrenaline and cortisol levels which suppress the immune system. Stress is misplaced effort and takes away the energy needed for healing.

The other imbalance is the Ultradian Healing Response. Every 90-120 minutes, our body-mind goes through a period of daydream or slowing called the “Ultradian Healing Response”. If we artificially keep perked up with coffee, ciagarettes or workaholism, we are neglecting our healing cycle. Meditation, daydreaming, healthy snacks or single quiet time allows us to take advantage of this healing cycle.Physical exercise is the yang side of rest.
