Could I get into Harvard?

Hi,

I’ll be a junior next year. Here are my credentials:

Cross Country
JSA senator (My bill was one of 5 that passed @ W. Congress
AP US history (B)
Pre-AP English (A-)
Hospital Volunteer since last spring (2007)
Volunteered 40 hours at local library
Year ahead in Science (Chemistry)
Active runner and in Yoga
Violinist
Ballet
City GOP party volunteer
Class Representative for Student Council
(Probably more by then….)
GPA is currently 3.73 (unweighted)

If not, you think Yale, princeton or Dartmouth? Thanks!
By the time I’ma senior, I will have a 3.85 GPA (at least) and probably have much more stuff. I also will have started a Conservative Youth club at my high school. Thanks.

To be qualified for any of those schools, you will need a 3.8+ unweighted GPA, a weighted average over 4.0, 2150+ (at least) on your SATs and lots of honors & AP classes.

Now for the bad news — these schools reject about 80% of the QUALIFIED applicants. That means even if you are qualified (and you are now on the border), then you need to stand out. Extracurriculars are nice — but they don’t count as much as people think they do — because they are easy to pad and hard to verify.

Your admissions essay and interview will be critical.

    Who knows?

besides, SAT and ACT scores are a big factor, until we know those, we can’t help, but your extracurricular activities are very good.

Right now, you don’t stand a chance of getting into Harvard. U have to realize that Harvard selects the top 2000 or so students from across the nation. Those are impressive extracurricular activities and grades but there are so many people out there with even better grades.

Even if u get a 2300+ on the SATs, the chance of u getting into Harvard is still slim.

I would recommend applying for colleges like Stanford, MIT, Cal Tech & Duke. These schools have pretty high selectivity rates are u have a good chance of getting into them.
