Beyond the Basics & Namaste Yoga Flow by Kate Olafson

Clip of Beyond the Basics & Namaste Yoga Flow by Kate Olafson. Full-length DVD available at Fitness Organica, http://www.fitnessorganica.com/products/BeyondTheBasicsNamasteYogaFlow.html

Two complete yoga practices on one DVD. Both are slow-paced flows, giving you time to settle in to the poses and really feel them, and both are filmed in a lovely outdoor setting. Each practice runs about 40 minutes. Kate Olafson has studied many styles of yoga, so her practices are blends of different disciplines. Two that stand out are Forrest and Iyengar yoga; you will notice significant influences from these two styles in Kate’s routines.

Beyond the Basics is for beginning and intermediate yoga students. You’ll start with some seated stretches and poses, move to standing for some basic poses such as triangle and tree, and then move back to the floor for the finishing poses and savasana.

Namaste Yoga Flow takes it up a notch, although it is still slower-paced and relaxing. It’s geared toward intermediate and advanced practitioners and, although it is more challenging than Beyond the Basics, you need not be worried about headstands or contortionist moves, because there aren’t any. Kate keeps it more to the intermediate side, making it a perfect progression for you once you’ve mastered the basic practice.

Kate Olafson is a well-rounded yogi, having studied Tantra Yoga with Rod Stryker, Forrest Yoga with Ana Forrest, Thai Yoga Therapy with Saul David Raye, and much more. Her variety and breadth of knowledge have clearly contributed to making her yoga style on this DVD unique and refreshing.
